Our Key Pest Control Services in Kotara

The most common insects and pests, such as spiders, cockroaches and ants, are at the top of most homeowners’ lists for the pests they want to banish to the outdoors. The good news is that a general pest treatment, performed once a year, is an easy and effective way to keep these kinds of pests from entering a home. The treatment is effective for many months and is best carried out in springtime, before pest populations have had a chance to build up.

If one particular pest is causing a problem – perhaps you’ve found a wasp nest or think rodents have got in – we offer a number of specialist treatments that are designed to target specific pests.

On the other hand, homeowners need to be on the watch for termite activity all the time. As they can cause such significant damage to a property in a relatively short time, termite protection measures should be taken to protect all homes in Australia. As their activity is often hidden from view, having regular, professional termite inspections is the first step.

Termite Inspection Kotara

The wooden features inside a home are targets for termites. This isn’t just limited to floorboards, doors and skirting boards, but the timber framing of the house itself can also come under attack. Having a professional termite inspection every year will minimise any potential damage. One of our professional termite inspectors will assess the property looking for evidence of termites, while also noting any areas where termites may gain access easily. In the written report, recommendations will be made for ways to make the property less attractive to termites that may be foraging nearby. The inspection report will also include photographs comprehensive notes on the findings, including any next steps that should be taken to keep the property safe from termites.

Termite Treatment Kotara

A termite treatment can either be curative (treating termites that have been found in the home) or preventative (reducing the chance of termites gaining access in the future). The cost of a termite treatment depends on a number of factors, such as the size of the property and the type of soil around the property.

The best way to protect a home against termites is to have a termite management system installed. Typically this will be either a soil treatment or a monitoring/baiting system. With a soil treatment, a liquid termiticide is mixed into the soil around the property. With a baiting system, bait stations are placed in the ground at regular intervals around the property, which are discovered by termites that are foraging nearby. A termite management system is a very effective way of dealing with termites, however annual termite inspections are still required to maintain the warranty on these systems. It’s important to regularly check that the system has not been compromised (e.g. by significant weather events) and is working effectively.

Kotara – Key Pests

Like much of the east coast, Kotara has a humid a subtropical climate. Hot summers are followed by mild winters, with plenty of rainfall making the soil warm and damp for much of the year. This is ideal for many insect pests, including termites. Ants and cockroaches are present year round but make their presence felt during the summer when they are often found indoors. Likewise, spiders will often wander indoors looking for shelter from rain and high temperatures. During the cooler months, rodents are the key pest to watch for. They will look for ways to access people’s homes to build a cosy nest for the winter.

Termites should always be the number one pest of concern for homeowners due to the damage they can cause without being detected. Having annual termite inspections is the best way to minimise the potential risk.

Kotara – Key Facts

1

Kotara is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘short stick’. It was used by the Awabakal tribe for hunting animals.  The stick, like a tapered club, was also used as a weapon for settling disputes, with the survivor being declared the victor.

2

Kotara is the retail heart of Newcastle.Following a $160 million redevelopment in 2018, Westfield Kotara has established itself as a destination shopping centre for the region. The Kotara Home Centre, opposite Westfield Kotara, is a collection of many big brand home and department stores.

3

The area was subdivided by the Scottish Australian Mining company in 1925. The aim was to establish a ‘garden suburb’ with good transport links and facilities such as parks, shops and green spaces for residents to enjoy. Development actually began about 20 years later, in 1947.
