General pest control treatment
With 11 pests covered in our general pest treatment, for most homeowners our general pest control treatment will do the job.
A general pest control treatment once a year is generally enough to keep your home pest-free.
Although some customers call this a “pest spray” it’s a lot more involved that just spraying the building and indeed we normally use a range of products:

Safety is our number one consideration.
Before we carry out any treatment we discuss any concerns you may have and carry out a risk-assessment. To protect your family and pets, we select the most appropriate products for your situation, with the best safety profiles and reduced environmental impact. If we are carrying out a spray treatment, it will be necessary to keep children and pets out of the area until the treatment is dry.

The cost of a pest treatment will vary due to a number of factors, importantly the size of the home.
For tenants we also offer end of lease pest treatments and for both tenants and landlords its worth understanding who is responsible for pest control in rental properties. This is a useful blog for landlords as it also provides useful tips on how to protect investment properties from pests.
Specialist pest control treatments
When you have a specific pest problem a specialist pest control treatment will be the best option.
Our specialist pest treatments have three key elements:
- We carry out an investigation to identify the cause of the problem
- Provide specific treatments using specialised products
- Recommend actions to prevent the problem re-occurring.
Before, during and after a pest control treatment
- Clear items away from the perimeter of the building
- Have a general tidy up so we can check all rooms
- Pack away toys
- Have dogs & cats removed from the property or housed away from the building
- Cover any ponds or fish tanks
Keep children and pets clear of the treatment area. Whilst you don’t have to leave, it is often easier.
Once any spray treatments have dried, people and pets can re-enter the area.
As the spray treatments leave an invisible residue on treated surfaces, avoid washing down surfaces. Otherwise, the treatment will be washed away and the duration or protection will be reduced.
How to prevent a pest problem…
- Clear away dirty dishes after meals
- Keep kitchen, cooker and fridge clean
- Clear up any food spillages
- Use sealed glass or plastic containers to store food
- Don’t leave pet food out after feeding
- Put rubbish in sealed garbage bags and place in rubbish bins away from the house
- Make sure doors, windows and screens are tight fitting
- Fill any holes and cracks in walls and around doors / windows
- Seal around utility entry points
- Use insect grills in weep holes
- Trim back any branches that overhang the roof (important for rodents)
- Make sure roof void and sub-floor are clear of stored goods / boxes
- Clear back vegetation in garden beds immediately surrounding the home (or better still have plants in pots on a pebble mulch around the home perimeter)
Pest Exterminator v Pest Manager?
A number of people use the word Pest Exterminator when looking for pest control services. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this, it is a little bit old fashioned (and a bit American!). At Rebel Pest Professional we see ourselves as pest managers, as we take a more scientific approach, rather than just carry out an extermination (spray and kill).
Prevention is always better than cure, so when we come to do a treatment we carry out an inspection to find out the cause of the pest problem. That way, after we have carried out the treatment to eliminate the problem, the necessary preventative steps can be taken so that the problem doesn’t re-occur. Modern pest management is all about using knowledge to minimise insecticide use, yet still deliver the same objective – a PEST FREE HOME! (or Business).
But if you want to call us a pest extermination service, that’s still OK!
Pest Control FAQ
The cost of a general pest control treatment depends on a number of factors, primarily around the nature of the property to be treated.
- Size of the building perimeter
- Number of rooms / bedrooms
- Single or double storey
- Building construction – does it have a sub-floor and / or roof void?
- Size of the property (land)
- Any out buildings or additional features in the yard
These factors will affect the time taken to do a treatment and the more time it takes, the more it will cost. A small unit may under $200, but a large mansion may be more than $500.
Of course the quality of the pest control company will also have an impact on the price.

No, ultrasonic pest repellers do not work. There have been several cases where fair trading has taken companies that sell these products to court.
- Recommendations from friend
- Check out their Google reviews
- How long has the business been in operation
- How much experience do the individual technicians have?
- (They don’t all have to have years of experience but you need a few)
- Ask how long it takes to do their various services
- If they take longer it’s an indication they take their time to do a good job!
- Make sure they are fully licensed and insured
When people ask about integrated pest control, they are really talking about integrated pest management or IPM.
IPM is a more holistic way of approaching pest management. You don’t just jump to spraying insecticide, but with a thorough inspection and considered approach, a IPM treatment plan is developed. This includes understanding the cause of the problem and carrying out physical actions (eg. hygiene plans) and pest proofing to prevent pest problems. Application of insecticide is generally the last step.
We cannot vouch for other pest control companies but our pest control treatments are safe:
- The products we use are fully registered by the government and are safe for use around children and pets, providing the necessary precautions are taken
- Before we carry out a treatment we carry out a risk assessment and discuss any concerns you may have
- People and pets should be kept clear of the treatment area during application and until any treatment has dried
- We always use lockable bait stations with rodenticide baits
